KROENKE SPORTS CHARITIES AND TEAMMATES FOR KIDS TO AWARD $40,000 TO LOCAL CHARITIES

Denver

Kroenke Sports Charities, in partnership with the Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids Foundation, will award $40,000 in grants to three Colorado non-profit organizations which provide recreation and program services for disabled athletes at Pepsi Center tonight before the Avalanche game against Columbus.

The Colorado Avalanche organization and its coaches and players have been partners with the Teammates for Kids Foundation since 2001.

"The Teammates for Kids Foundation provides a unique way for our players to support non-profit organizations in Colorado and throughout the world," said Deb Dowling-Canino, Vice President of Community Relations and Fan Development for Kroenke Sports Enterprises. "We've been very proud to be the only professional team, in any sport, to have 100% participation of our players, coaches and management for two consecutive years in this unique fundraising program which allows our teams' shots, assists, power play goals, penalty minutes, points, and even goalie saves and wins to count for children around the world."

The grant recipients include:

Colorado Special Hockey (CSH) - A youth hockey program for children and young adults, male and female, with Down Syndrome, Autism, ADD/HD or developmental disabilities that prevent the athlete from participating in other organized programs. CSH integrates gentle teaching with appropriate training and support methods and exercise and movement therapy in a fun hockey environment that enhances physical, mental, behavioral and social skills.

Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center (CTRC)- The CTRC is the oldest and largest therapeutic riding center in Colorado which uniquely promotes the physical, motor, sensory, cognitive, psychological and emotional well-being of children, youth and adults with disabilities. Therapeutic Riding is not a mere pony ride; rather, it is a very powerful and exciting form of therapy that has profound results on their riders' lives.

Colorado Wheelchair Sports (CWS) - CWS provides training and competition for youth and adults with disabilities such as spinal cord injuries, Spina Bifida, amputees, Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy and Polio. Through participation in the Colorado Sled Hockey program, participants have gained a greater self-esteem, learned how to work with others in a team environment, and enhanced their physical and mental health.

Kroenke Sports Charities partners with Colorado non-profit organizations which provide programs and services for underserved children and families in the areas of health, recreation, fitness, education and hunger. Since 1996, the Colorado Avalanche has distributed over $12 million in grants and donations.

Teammates for Kids Foundation partners with professional athletes in major league sports to raise support for children’s charities in the area of Health, Education and Inner City Services. Teammates has been involved in the NHL since the 2001-2002 season and has given over 68 million dollars to children’s charities since its beginning in 1999.
